Two women,Ysemny Ramos and Tassia Katsiambanis, coming from work Friday were struck by a van that jumped the curb. The police arrested the van’s driver, Keston Brown, 27, near the scene. He was charged with manslaughter, driving while intoxicated and felony assault. The passenger in the van, who was not identified, was charged with marijuana possession. Mrs. Ramos, who was three months pregnant, was killed, and Ms. Katsiambanis, who was seriously injured.

But, forecasters determined that early Saturday morning the river actually crested at a lower level than predicted and seemed, at least for now, to be dropping.

Officers in Israel are coming forward to end rumors of them abusing civilians in the Gaza war. They are saying that majority of its soldiers acted honorably and that the account of killing of a woman and her two children appears to be a myth spread by troops who did not witness it.
Dozens Killed in Pakistani Mosque
On Friday, a suicide bomber in Peshawar, Pakistan attacked a crowded mosque, setting off explosives as a cleric performed the holy prayer. A dozen people were killed as the roof came crashing in.

Arsonist Wanted To Be A Hero
Caleb Lacey, 19, a new recruit to theLawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department, was charged Saturday with arson and four counts of murder in the Feb. 19 fire, which killed a North Lawrence woman and her three children.The volunteer firefighter poured gasoline on the apatment staircase and set it on fire. He then ran back to the station to wait for the emergency call. His reason for doing this.....he wanted to become a hero.
In Loving Memory
45-year-old Tony Award winner, Natasha Richardson died Wednesday at Lenox Hill Hospital two days after a skiing accident in Quebec. Her body was returned to an upstate farm where she married Liam Neeson 15 years ago.

There will be a new ride at the New York Aquarium in Brooklyn. It will be a 4D ride that will take people under the sea to swim with the fishes.
Sex Offenders Not Welcomed
Riverhead officials have gone to court to force Suffolk County to remove a trailer for sex offenders from behind a fence at the Riverhead County Jail, charging that the housing is illegal because it is less than 1,000 feet from a town park. But, county officials say that it's not really a park at all, just a some open space along the Peconic River. On top of that, the trailer for the homeless men was there first.

The Brooklyn Paper, has been running since 1978. It was founded and published by Ed Weintrob. But, it was just purchased by Rubert Murdoch's News Corporation. For some Brooklynites this is not a good thing.
The Plane Crash Comes In Threes
A small plane crashed as it approached an airport in Montana, killing 17 people, including several children. The plane departed from Oroville, Calif. Flight plan showed a destination of Bozeman, about 85 miles southeast of Butte. But the pilot canceled his flight plan at some point and headed for Butte.
Illegal Immagrants Are Scared Too
Many illegal immigrants are worrying about jobs and immigration raids. Americans who have lost their jobs can turn to unemployment but illegal immigrants do not have access to that making things for them harder.
Positve News For Iraq
There was a college fair in Sulaimaniya, similar to one held in Baghdad, where almost 100 Kurdish college students went to meet with mostly American college recruiters. It is the first event of its kind in Iraq.
Peace Not So Close
Difficulties and divisions lie ahead as the Sri Lankan government fights what they say is a final battle to end a 25-year separatist insurgency. Homeless Tamil refugees camping in shanties still live in uncertainty, while surrounded by barbed wire. Their resentment against Sinhalese government has grown.
